Christina Hernandez | Nightingale Photography

Congratulations on your engagement! I’m Christina Hernandez, owner of Nightingale Photography. I’ve created this site especially to showcase the weddings I photograph at San Francisco City Hall. It is one of the most beautiful and elegant buildings in the United States and it’s a privilege for me to photograph there so frequently. I also adore elopements of all kinds and have added a gallery of moments I’ve photographed in the Napa, Sonoma Wine Country. I’m a professional photojournalist, 15 years as a staff photographer at the San Francisco Chronicle. What I strive to give my clients are moments between moments. I believe that emotionally rich wedding photography will bring my couples back to the feeling of their wedding day for years to come. To view my full wedding website, including Engagement Sessions, Boudoir Sessions and Wedding Films, please visit nightingalephotos.com.

I offer a variety of City Hall and California elopement photography collections. Most couples enjoy my 3 hr package which gives us enough time for photographs in the clerk’s office, ceremony, portraits at City Hall and an extra location in San Francisco such as the Palace of Fine Arts or North Beach. I adore being a guide for my couples and will offer you a variety of suggestions for locations. In addition, we offer beautiful City Hall Wedding Films. These are custom films that share the highlights of your day. View an example HERE

Please fill out the contact form to send me your wedding details. I can’t wait! Christina | christina@nightingalephotos.com, 510-338-2997

Civil marriage ceremonies are performed by a Deputy Marriage Commissioner from the San Francisco County Clerk’s office, Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (except legal holidays) by prepaid confirmed reservation only.  A reservation may be made and paid for through the online reservation system. It is highly recommended that you check for reservation availability of your preferred ceremony date and time prior to making your marriage license reservation in the event you want both reservations scheduled on the same day. San Francisco City Hall, Rm 168. Bring: Valid IDs for both of you

You can either purchase your marriage license ahead of time or the day of the wedding, before the ceremony. We recommend getting the license ahead of time; it’ll make the process of checking in for your ceremony much smoother.  Just make sure that you schedule your ceremony within 90 days of receiving your license as it does expire!  Currently the cost is $105 for a marriage license at San Francisco City Hall.  This cost does change periodically; you’ll be able to view the current rate when you make your appointment.  Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm and are held in Room 168 on the first floor of City Hall. Don’t forget your IDs!

There are two types of ceremonies at San Francisco City Hall – civil ceremonies, which are public and by far the most popular, and private ceremonies.  Civil ceremony appointments are available Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Appointments can be made up to 90 days in advance.  These ceremonies are held on the beautiful Rotunda, at the top of the staircase.  Only six guests are permitted to attend civil ceremonies due to space and the number that are booked at the same time (three can be scheduled for every half hour slot). It’s common to see excited couples and their guests waiting their turn along the edges of the Rotunda’s second floor.

Civil ceremonies are short, just six minutes long, and are officiated by an assigned judge.  The reservation cost for a civil ceremony is $78.  You must present your wedding license at the time of the ceremony.  If you’re getting your license the same day as the ceremony, make sure to schedule your license appointment at least 30 minutes before your ceremony appointment.
